Follistim®; AQ Cartridge is designed to be used only with the Follistim Pen®, an innovative pen device that facilitates accurate delivery of individualized doses of pre-mixed follitropin beta injection, a highly effective and widely used prescription fertility medication made from state of the art recombinant DNA technology

Follistim® AQ Cartridge, for use with the Follistim Pen®, is prescribed for women undergoing assisted reproductive treatments (ART) such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), and for the induction of ovulation to achieve pregnancy. Follistim® AQ Cartridge for use with the Follistim Pen®, provides women with a discreet, convenient method to self-administer fertility treatment with ease and confidence using the unique dial-a-dose feature.

How It Works: Follistim is administered as a subcutaneous injection. Follistim acts like naturally produced FSH by stimulating a follicle (egg) to develop and mature in the ovary. Follistim is also used to stimulate the development of multiple eggs for assisted reproductive technologies.

Bravelle®

Description: Bravelle® is the newest highly purified human-derived FSH (hFSH). It is the only human-derived FSH approved for both subcutaneous (SC) and intramuscular (IM) injection. Bravelle® in conjunction with human chorionic gonadotropin, is indicated for ovulation induction and in vitro fertilization following pituitary suppression.

How It Works: Bravelle® is administered as an injection either subcutaneously or intramuscularly. Bravelle® is a purified form of a naturally occurring hormone FSH. Bravelle® is used to stimulate a follicle (egg) to develop and mature in the ovary. Bravelle® is also used to stimulate the development of multiple eggs with assisted reproductive technologies.

Menopur®

Description: MENOPUR® is a purified preparation of human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) containing hormones necessary for human reproduction. MENOPUR® is the first and only fertility treatment approved by the FDA on the basis of pregnancy rates. MENOPUR® is a preparation of naturally derived gonadotropins that has undergone an exacting purification process. The hMG in MENOPUR® is extracted from the urine of postmenopausal women and is purified using state-of-the-art technology. It contains equal amounts of 75 IU follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and 75 IU leutinizing hormone (LH).

How It Works: Menopur® is a gonadotropin that contains a combination of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) that stimulates the ovaries to produce eggs.

Repronex®

Description: Repronex® is a human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) administered by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. It is the most frequently prescribed hMG on the market. Repronex®, in conjunction with hCG, is indicated for multiple follicular development (controlled ovarian stimulation) and ovulation induction in patients who have previously received pituitary suppression. Each vial contains 75 IU (international units) of powdered medication to be mixed with diluent.

How It Works: Repronex® is administered by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. It promotes the development and maturation of follicles in the ovaries. Repronex® is a gonadotropin that contains a combination of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH).

Ganirelix Acetate (Antagon)

Description: Ganirelix Acetate Injection (formerly called Antagon™) is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist that is used to suppress premature luteinizing hormone (LH) surges in women during assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment. This prevents eggs from being released prematurely. Ganirelix Acetate is available as a prefilled syringe containing 250mcg/0.5ml.

How It Works: Ganirelix Acetate is an injectable medication administered subcutaneously once daily. It is initiated a few days after FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) therapy and should be continued until the day of HCG administration. Ganirelix Acetate works immediately by suppressing LH and FSH secretion. This allows for eggs to reach the level of development needed for fertilization.

Leuprolide Acetate Injection (Lupron®)

Description: Leuprolide Acetate is related to a naturally occurring hormone called gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). It is prescribed for many different indications. It is used as part of the process to stimulate multiple eggs for assisted reproductive technologies.

How It Works: Leuprolide Acetate is administered as a subcutaneous injection using insulin syringes. It is used to reduce the amount of estrogen and testosterone in the body. This decrease in estrogen production will prevent ovulation and stop menstrual periods.

Microdose Leuprolide

Description: Leuprolide Acetate (Lupron®) is related to a naturally occurring hormone called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). The pharmacist according to the physician's instructions compounds Microdose Leuprolide. These preparations are a diluted concentration of the prescription Leuprolide Acetate 1mg/0.2ml.

How It Works: Leuprolide Acetate is administered as a subcutaneous injection using insulin syringes. It is used to reduce the amount of estrogen and testosterone in the body. This decrease in estrogen production will prevent ovulation and may stop menstrual periods.

HCG and Novarel®

HCGDescription: Pregnyl and Novarel® contain human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). HCG is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the placenta. It is indicated for the induction of ovulation and pregnancy in the anovulatory, infertile women in whom the cause of anovulation is secondary and not due to primary ovarian failure.

How It Works: HCG is administered as an injection intramuscularly or subcutaneously depending on the physician's instructions. HCG is virtually identical to that of pituitary luteinizing hormone (LH). During the normal menstrual cycle, LH participates with follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) in the development and maturation of the normal ovarian follicle, and the mid-cycle LH surge triggers ovulation. During an assisted reproductive cycle (ART), hCG is used to induce egg maturation and trigger ovulation (the release of an egg(s) from the ovary) in women who have been treated with ovulation inducing medications.

Progesterone in Oil Injection-50mg/ml

Description: Progesterone injection is indicated for progesterone supplementation or replacement as part of an assisted reproductive technology (ART) therapy. Progesterone injection is available in sesame, peanut, cotton and olive oil.

How It Works: Progesterone injection is administered as injection intramuscularly. Progesterone is used during the luteal phase of the cycle when the bodies own natural progesterone is insufficient. Progesterone prepares the uterus to receive a fertilized egg for implantation. Once a fertilized egg is implanted, progesterone acts to maintain the pregnancy. Progesterone causes the lining of the endometrium to thicken and increases its blood supply.

Progesterone Vaginal Capsules

Description: The pharmacist using micronized progesterone powder compounds Progesterone vaginal capsules. Progesterone vaginal capsules are indicated for progesterone supplementation or replacement as part of an assisted reproductive technology (ART) therapy. The pharmacists commonly prepare Progesterone vaginal capsules in strengths of 100mg, 200mg, 300mg and 400mg as those are the most common use vaginal capsules.

How It Works: Progesterone vaginal capsules are administered vaginally where it is absorbed locally. Progesterone is used during the luteal phase of the cycle if the bodies own natural progesterone is insufficient. Progesterone prepares the uterus to receive a fertilized egg for implantation. Once a fertilized egg is implanted, progesterone acts to maintain the pregnancy.

Clomiphene Citrate

Description: Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid/Serophene®) is an ovulatory stimulant. It is indicated for the treatment of ovulatory dysfunction in women desiring pregnancy. Clomiphene Citrate is used to induce ovulation, to correct irregular ovulation, to help increase egg production and to correct luteal phase deficiency.

How It Works: Clomiphene Citrate is in tablet form and is administered orally. It is taken once daily for approximately 5 days early in the cycle. Clomiphene Citrate works by stimulating the release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) that are needed for follicle development and ovulation. Clomiphene Citrate induces ovulation by increasing the output of FSH from the pituitary gland.
